KUNA, the Kentucky United Nations Assembly, is a program employed by the YMCA that allows Kentucky high school students to engage in numerous mock United Nations activities. These activities include debate over resolutions, Security Council, an International Court of Justice, a media group, global village, international court, and numerous other activities.

Because of the nature of these activities and the nature of the conference itself, the conference has evolved and developed over time. For instance, this year during a general assembly, time was set aside so that a human rights event could be put into action. During this event, speakers detailed the lives of a few people from all over the world. After detailing their lives, the speakers spoke about how in our world there are many instances where people are being cruelly treated. After this event, the conference was given the opportunity to donate money towards assisting some of these people. It is from events like the one previously mentioned that the growth and development of KUNA have stemmed.

Throughout the many years KUNA has existed, it has grown and developed like a living organism. As the world the KUNA inhabits changes and evolves, so does the program. With every new wave of students that come to partake in KUNA comes new ideologies and forms of social interaction. The way the world works and the direction it is taking has changed dramatically since KUNA’s founding. As the world continues to evolve, KUNA must as well.
