Reflection: KUNA Ambassadors Most Pressing Issues
by: Kathleen Beebe
In the bustling hallway between the hotel rooms and meeting rooms, you can find multiple sheets of white paper all spelling out one word: Reflection. With reflection being the overarching theme of this conference, the presiding officers wanted to find a way to highlight what KUNA Ambassadors view as the most pressing issues. However, after talking with Aya Samadi (Editor-In-Chief) and Minha Raza (Deputy Secretary General) they both mentioned that reflection has always been a part of KUNA, but they wanted to make it a larger, public, and more accessible part, giving ambassadors a chance to share what they think is important, which is something that hasn’t always happened. Among these issues are equality, education for all, energy, human trafficking, climate change, domestic violence, civil engagement, diveristy, world hunger, equity, feminism, and mental health.
These are pressing issues in many countries around the globe and after the copious amounts of research the ambassadors do prior to the conference, they know many of these issues inside and out. Through this research, ambassadors were able to form opinions and reflect on what they care most about. Essentially, this is what KUNA is all about: learning about international issues and understanding that you cannot help all issues. But, you can find the ones you are most passionate about and try to do all you can, no matter how big or small, to help those.
