With the beginning of High School KUNA One, the delegates rushed the halls of the Galt House finding their rooms, settling in, and getting to their meetings. However, with all of this chaos, everyone finally came together to open the conference. Opening session is one of the most important, uplifting, and exciting times of KUNA. Seeing old friends and making new ones all comes with the start of this conference.

What’s a better way to start KUNA than spelling it? This is one of the longer traditions of Y-Conferences and is a good way to answer questions pertaining to our purpose of being there. “What’s the best way to learn about countries?…K-U-N-A!” This led up to introducing the sixty-seven countries represented at High School KUNA one.

On a more serious note, Colin Roark, the Secretary General, gave a motivational speech that moved his peers to be more outgoing. He says that being a leader is about leaving your comfort zone to do great things. Roark makes an analogy to Ebenezer Scrooge to show how doing this can change your life from miserable to something you really love. His greatest piece of advice was to “never be fully satisfied.”

Following his speech, each Presiding Officer spoke about their specific areas of KUNA. This includes Security Council, Media Corps, and Court of Justice. They spoke about what each one did and what made them unique. Wrapping up, the Deputy Secretary General, Madison Blair, gave a persuasive speech on voting and registering for the upcoming elections.
