As I (Monse Muniz) was sitting in my desk chair listening to the GA’s many memorable quotes stuck out to me that I was determined to have remembered. I knew that I had to keep track of these voices and quickly turned on the voice recorder on my phone. I hope that you get as much out of these quotes as I did.

Opening Assembly
Governor Jacob Grant:

“We know that as young Kentuckians, we are responsible for change in our state and nation”
“We are united by this inexplicable desire to promote change within our state”
“COVID has caused me to realize a few things…we need to accept the harsh reality that there are problems and to fix it only starts with a discussion”

General Assembly
Candidate Speeches
CW Candidate Clint Chambliss:

“Thinking outside the box is a reality for 2020 because there is no box”

CW Candidate Oni Terrrado
“It is the love and passion for the Y that brings us here today to be the change we wish to see in the world”
“This was not about myself, everyone needed help to think outside the box to find new solutions and overcome this pandemic”

General Assembly
Closing Thoughts
Governor Jacob Grant:

“The attraction of growing up is not as great as staying young forever and yet we will experience that change at some point”
“The world is in chaos but we are responsible for what happens next”

Speaker of the CW House Natalie Schory:
“Growing up I had the privilege of ignoring harsh realities, my family acted as a barrier between the world in an effort to protect me from the darkness and its possession.when I became old enough to formulate my own opinions and to acknowledge my own privilege; I couldn’t help being angry at myself for the blindness I experienced.”
“This period of waiting for life to give me something to be passionate about, created a constant state of unrest that overtook my entire being. As time has passed I have learned that this unrest will always be a part of me”

President of CW Senate Nick Bentley:
“When I got home [from KYA] all I wanted was to go back.”

Secretary of State Callie Aitken:
“This is the only place where I can be authentically myself without the fear of not fitting in and I hope we have given you that same community”

Editor-in-Chief Isabella Cowen:
“This time last year I was probably at the lowest point in my life and KYA was the start of shaping a new me…KYA helped me find the group of people I needed to help start the rebuilding of me…”

Secretary of the Cabinet Blair Fraley:
“Throughout your time at the Y you start to realize it might be the one place you can call home”

President of BG Senate Peyton Burnham:
“Be the person who inspires change. Be the person who doesn’t stay in your comfort zone…”

Closing Session
Governor Jacob Grant:

“You took one of the most strenuous situations and exceeded my expectations. It’s not lie to say that you guys have inspired me this entire conference”

Being the assistant editor for Media Corp was truly an honor. I thoroughly enjoyed leading the newspaper team and I would like to thank them for making my last KYA one to remember. I am so proud not only of my newspaper team but also of all of Media Corp. I am not going to lie, it was hard to make connections with them through a screen. However, I saw within them the strength to want to do better and reach all of KYA’s delegates through all of our platforms, not just the newspaper. We hope that KYA was for you a chance to feel like you have achieved something in a time where most of us feel hopeless. In the words of Ryan Simpson, our Media Corps Director, “we made something out of nothing.” Thank you for reading.
