Most Memorable Moments At Any KUNA
By: Aya Samadi
After interviewing several candidates, resolution sponsors, and ambassadors at KUNA, it is evident the impact this conference has had on students across Kentucky is immeasurable. They were asked what their favorite memories at KUNA were. These quotes have been taken verbatim of KUNA attendees this year:
“My favorite memory is being on a resolution team this year.”
“My favorite part of KUNA is the Global Village.”
“This is my first KUNA, but so far my favorite memory is actually mustering up the courage to go and talk during summits.”
“There was this one time when we still addressed the chairs. I went up and it was my first time speaking in the sixth grade and I was super excited, [but] didn’t know what to do at all. The chair was a man and I said ‘Madame Chair’ and everyone laughed at me; I ended up joking with my friends afterward and realized that public speaking wasn’t the most serious thing.”
“I was at KUNA last year where I was a member of the Secretariat program when it first started. My favorite memory was night two [when] Nathan Zou sat his entire group down [next to me] and we all discussed which resolutions we thought should be the Secretary General’s Choice Resolution. It was just amazing being one of five voices that got to make that decision. It was insane!”
“Mine’s selfish. I was really distraught because our bills weren’t getting passed and we were doing worse than we were used to doing. I was sitting with a different delegation, Lafayette’s delegation because I was distraught and then they called my name for Outstanding Speaker Award and that delegation recommended me for it.”
“I really liked the speeches that the PO’s gave because it did call to attention what one of the most drastic issues of our [world] is and it was nice to be able to understand that from their point of view. I just really, really enjoyed that they put themselves out there like that.”
“Last year during mandatory fun, we played Truth or Dare; it was the most embarrassing, yet the most exciting Truth or Dare.”
“I remember my Freshman year, I was with a group of my friends and Nathan Zou came up to us and started doing magic tricks way longer than anybody just trying to get our vote. He basically just tried to entertain us the whole time and it gave a good first impression of KUNA and its leadership.”
KUNA has a way of impacting people in so many ways because of the versatile jobs in which students can participate. From stories about the people who attend KUNA to ones that address the positions you can hold, KUNA has touched people in a number of ways.
