Each and every year, KYA 1 sees amazing candidates give heartfelt speeches on topics they’re passionate about. 2022 is no different. This year we saw six candidates in total; two Commonwealth, four Bluegrass.

Commonwealth

Annie Dauk

My name is Annie Dauk, and I am currently a junior musical theater major at duPont Manual High School! I sing, act, dance, play ukelele, represent Kentucky as Miss Kentucky’s Outstanding Teen, and have started my own nonprofit organization Senior Smiles Kentucky. My three platforms are preventing child abuse, ending food insecurity, and farmer suicide prevention. Kentucky currently doubles the national average in child abuse rates, has 1 in 6 children who struggle with food insecurity, and is an agricultural state to farmers who are part of the most likely carrer to commit suicide. These are clearly three of Kentuckys’ most prevelent issues! I encourage you to use your voice, be yourself, and always remember that KYA is gonna rock, if you vote for Annie Dauk!

Reece Brown

(did not provide statement) Platforms: Paid highschool internships, Education reform, improved bussing to/from schools.

Bluegrass

Abigail Wissing

My name is Abigail Wissing. I attend Assumption High School, run track and field and pile myself in academic clubs. I’ve only been a bill author and a delegate in the past so I am so excited to be a candidate this year. But I’m not shy of leadership. I am the Vice President of my own Y chapter and represented Kentucky at CONA this past summer. So if I am elected as a PO, I want to continue having my platforms of Teen Mental Health, Police Reform, & Helping Victims of Domestic Violence heard, by all of Kentucky.

Arushi Bansal

Hey HS KYA 1, my name is Arushi Bansal and I am so excited to be your CW candidate for Presiding Officer! My platforms are disaster relief, accessible healthcare, and the gender pay gap. My favorite thing to do is attend KYA, KUNA, GFI, and LTC conferences. I am Secretary of Sayre’s Y-Club and had a great time serving as your Speaker of the Bluegrass House last year. I am a captain of Sayre’s varsity golf team and love being part of the varsity tennis team as well. At Sayre, I am also a KIDS (Kindness, Inclusion, Diversity, Self-worth) to Kids Facilitator and Editor-in-Chief of our student newspaper, the Spartan Chronicle. In my free time, I love to play the piano and act in our theater productions. I also regularly volunteer at a senior home where I talk to residents, help them pick out books, organize their rooms, and more. Please reach out to me with any questions about me or my platforms! Looking forward to my last two years of being with you all, my familY!

Lena Day

I am from Georgetown, Kentucky, and I am a Junior at Craft Academy. I am involved with Girl Scouts, 4-H trap and crochet, Rocketry Club, NHS, and undergraduate reach. I am also the current Treasurer for Interact Club. I love giving back to my community and for my service project with Student Y I worked with Green Dot, to increase awareness about resources available to people who are dealing with abusive relationships. I love backpacking, hiking, reading, and crochet. I also love baking and cooking.

Chloe Groemling

Hi! My name is Chloe Groemling, and I am a freshman at duPont Manual high school. I’ve enjoyed playing soccer since I was little and currently play for Racing Louisville. Outside of school and sports, I am actively involved within my community, volunteering for organizations like Special Olympics and Dreams with Wings. For my platforms, I chose three things which hit close to my heart: food insecurity, substandard foster care, and gun violence. I pledge to do my part in building a better Bluegrass. Don’t forget, vote Chloe G, she is the key!!
