Can the Big 5 Really Be Taken Down?

At the beginning of KUNA 1, there was a lot of chatter surrounding the Security Council. With the crisis coming into play much earlier than anticipated, tensions ran high among the ambassadors. They’re focusing on the crisis at hand, but there are still some individuals pushing their personal agendas.

During Global Village, a team of three Security Council members was trying to rally support around their idea. They believe that they have “found a loophole” that could abolish the veto power possessed by the Big 5: United States, United Kingdom, France, China, and the Russian Federation. They also believe they can get rid of them as permanent members. They explained to Belgium that if they could rally enough support and form the majority, then they can postpone the adjournment of the session until they agreed to the terms of the situation. They could essentially hold the Big 5 “hostage” until they comply.

Multiple countries have already agreed to aid these three radical Security Council members. They are willing to do whatever it takes, whether it be missing meals, no bathroom breaks, or missing free time in order to accomplish something that no assembly of the United Nations has ever accomplished. Will their efforts pay off, or will the Big 5 wait it out, hoping enough countries will back down out of necessity for resources? Only time will tell, but I am sure this is going to be one to remember!
